| The
White Cliffs of Dover are the first glimpse of England
gained by many international visitors traveling from continental
Europe. The cliffs are about 65-80 million years old, made from
chalk deposits that were characteristic of the Cretaceous period
and stretch for about 10 miles along the coast. They are scarred
with defenses and fortifications from countless wars. Napoleonic
tunnels were built into the cliffs and modified for use during World
War II. |
